Effects of Growth Hormone on Bacterial Translocation Due to Intestinal Obstruction

چکیده
209 Abstract: Bacterial translocation is an important etiologic factor in multisystem organ failure and sepsis, which have a high mortality rate. To determine the effects of growth hormone on bacterial translocation, an experimental study was performed. Twenty pathogen-free rabbits were divided into two groups each containing 10 rabbits. After loop obstruction was performed, the rabbits in the control group were given saline solution whereas the rabbits in the study group received growth hormone. Relaparotomy was performed after 24 hours, and tissue and blood samples were collected for histopathologic and microbiologic examinations. Bacterial translocation rates were higher in the control group than in the study group. In conclusion, the growth hormone was found to have protective effects against bacterial translocation.

Is there any change in the pattern of bacterial translocation with increased time of the obstruction?
Introduction: Bacterial translocation is defined as the passage of bacteria from intestinal tract to the extraintestinal organs such as the peritoneum and blood circulation. The aim of this study is to examine bacterial translocation (regarding type of bacteria and effect of time of obstruction on bacterial translocation) from intestinal lumen to the peritoneum and viscera in acute, simple mec...

OBJECTIVE One of the reasons of bacterial translocation (BT) is the complete or partial intestinal obstructions (PIO) of the gastrointestinal system. In this study, we aimed to investigate the effects of recombinant human Growth Hormone (rhGH) on BT in rats with partial intestinal obstruction (PIO). MATERIAL AND METHODS The rats were randomly divided into the 4 groups: Group I: Sham-operated ...
متن کاملGut Microbial Translocation in Critically Ill Children and Effects of Supplementation with Pre- and Pro Biotics
Bacterial translocation as a direct cause of sepsis is an attractive hypothesis that presupposes that in specific situations bacteria cross the intestinal barrier, enter the systemic circulation, and cause a systemic inflammatory response syndrome. Critically ill children are at increased risk for bacterial translocation, particularly in the early postnatal age. Predisposing factors include int...

The aim of the present study was to investigate the effects of dietary sodium butyrate on growth performance, intestinal microbiota, digestive enzymes, humoral immune responses and resistance against Aeromonas hydrophila in rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) juveniles (39.5±1.12 g). The fish were fed diets supplemented with 0 (SB0), 1.5 (SB1.5), 2.5 (SB2.5) and 5 (SB5.0) g/kg sodium butyrate f...
متن کاملEffects of alpha-tocopherol on bacterial translocation and lipid peroxidation in rats with intestinal obstruction1
Purpose: Investigate if alpha-tocopherol has a protective effect on intestinal mucosa after obstruction and to evaluate the potential relations between lipid peroxidation and bacterial translocation. Methods: Ten rats were submitted to a sham laparotomy and six served as control group. A small bowel obstruction was done in sixteen animals and among them eight were pretreated with alpha-tocopher...
